Effects of Drinking Attitude on Depression in Old Age

ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to raise the awareness of the elderly problem drinking and provide baseline data to improve the health of the elderly by identifying the effects of drinking attitudes of the elderly on depression. The subjects of this study were 249 elderly people living in D city and this study was conducted from July to August 2016. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 program. The general characteristics, the level of depression, and drinking status were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The level of depression and drinking status by the general characteristics were evaluated by t-test and ANOVA. The drinking status by the level of depression was analyzed by Pearson‘s correlation analysis. The results of Model 1 showed that drinking influenced depression more when the level of drinking was closer to problem drinking. The results of Model 2 revealed that sociodemographic characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and provide a mental health management program for helping the elderly prevent depression and practice healthy drinking more concretely and actively
