ABSTRACT
Currently, in the Republic of Korea (ROK), the issues pertaining to the DDoS security development and education are being discussed again as there was an incident of server-down at the duty-free shop due to DDoS attack. Since one should acquire a variety of elemental skills to deal with DDoS-related problems, a half-year curriculum for DDoS security was developed and some essential and fundamental educational contents were selected ultimately after undergoing many trials and errors. The developed curriculum was applied to 4 groups made up of 5 learners each for the period of 2 years (4 semesters). The selected contents reflected the requirements from Korea Housing Finance Corporation and Busan Bank Headquarters. The goal of this curriculum was to develop a program that can effectively detect the DDoS attack patterns by studying attackers' attacking techniques. The curriculum contents allow learners to analyze a server network, output analysis results through GUI, leave packet-access logs and monitor network traffics on a real time basis comparing them with known attack patterns. As 6 out of 20 learners participated in the proposed capstone design curriculum were employed by the security companies, the curriculum was deemed effective but the result of information security engineer certification exam was another important factor for employment.
