ABSTRACT

The first goal of this study is to confirm validity and reliability of workforce management and service performance as usable concepts in empirical studies and to verify if there is a positive relationship between the two concepts empirically for Chinese service industry. Furthermore, as the second goal of this study, we tried to check if diversification strategy and niche market strategy, which are used in marketing prevalently, have positive moderate effect on the relationship between workforce management and service performance respectively. Based on the results of a survey on 213 Chinese service companies, we verified that workforce management and service performance are empirically acceptable and valid concepts and that the former has positive effect on the latter and, additionally, diversification strategy showed positive moderate effect on that relationship, while niche market strategy did not. As the result, we offer a managerial implication that an activity over longer time span like workforce management is matching with a broader strategy like diversification strategy, not with narrower strategy like niche market.
