    Abstract

In Wireless Sensor Network if sensor nodes are densely deployed than a single target can be sensed by multiple sensors simultaneously and the sensed data are usually highly interrelated and redundant. If each node sends the redundant data to the base station, energy will be futile and thus the network energy will be exhausted quickly. Thus the overall Lifetime of the network gets reduced because of redundant data processing by the sensor nodes and the Base station. One of the major challenges in constructing such networks is to maintain long network lifetime .To achieve this goal it is required to turn off redundant sensors. The energy of nodes is the most important parameter because the lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks is limited by the energy of the nodes. Many algorithms for achieving energy consumption optimization have been proposed, including Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), Stable Election Protocol (SEP), Distributed Energy-Efficient Clustering (DEEC) and so on. In this paper, we have proposed a protocol FBRA, a Fuzzy based Redundancy Avoidance protocol in which selection of cluster head is based upon of Fuzzy logic. Results obtained from simulation shows that by avoiding redundant data along with fuzzy based cluster head selection can elongate system lifetime by a considerable amount and can drastically reduce the energy consumption.
