A Preliminary Study on Hierarchy Analysis according to the Spatial Configuration of the Ward in a Geriatrics Hospital
|
With the increase that has been seen in the elderly population in recent years, various studies have been conducted on specialized elderly facilities. However, few studies have focused on specialized geriatrics hospitals. The fact that they are different from general elderly facilities in that they are hospitals, and different from general hospitals in that their main patients are the elderly, has made them too narrow a topic to attract much interest from researchers.. In this regard, this study aims to derive foundational data for the design of wards in geriatrics hospitals by analyzing the spatial configuration using the floor plans of wards in geriatrics hospitals where elderly patients reside. This study utilized the space syntax, a spatial configuration analysis method, and limited its scope to South Korea, a country that has seen a significant aging of its population. This study was limited to geriatrics hospitals with 100 sickbeds or more for the spatial configuration analysis in geriatrics hospitals, and spatial shape was divided into ring and tree types in the selection of hospitals. Spatial configuration analysis by ward in geriatrics hospitals was conducted based on spatial accessibility, recognition level, and controllability, enabling us to derive foundational data that will be highly useful in the design of geriatrics hospitals in the future.
