Plan of Protection Measures Construction for Military Information and Communication System against EMP Threats

ABSTRACT

Recently, as the EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) threat has expanded to the military’s information and communication system, it began to concentrate on protection measures. When an EMP attack occurs to military IC systems, it can cause to command & control system and major weapon system’s software failure, cellular mobile communication system, aircraft and missile malfunction, air defense network and radar equipment paralysis. In particular, if North Korea explodes a scud missile with EMP in the air of South Korea, it can disable the functions of the ROK military network and the C4I system. We propose a three - step defense system to protect the military information and communication system from enemy EMP threats.
