|
This study aims to examine a method to separate and identify microorganisms existing on the scalp with excessive secretion of sebum and with alopecia and control and manage such scalp using Angelica gigas and Achyranthes bidentata extracts. Microorganisms belonging to the genus of Malassezia were detected from all age groups’ scalps with excessive secretion of sebum. A paper disc method using natural extracts was applied in order to inhibit microorganisms separated from the scalps. The antifungal effect of Achyranthes bidentata and Angelica gigas extracted with methanol on M. yamatoensis and R. slooffiae was examined and only the Angelica gigas extract had antifungal effect in both microorganisms. An inhibition zone of 13mm was formed in M. yamatoensis and an inhibition zone of 1mm only was identified in R. slooffiae. The result of this study is considered to be utilized as a basic material for research on association between microorganisms on the surface of the scalp and scalp diseases and alopecia.
