Understanding social innovation from systemic perspectives
|
This article investigates the complex nature of social innovation from systemic perspectives, in which systems thinking offers the concept of inquiring systems that deal with complexity generated from beyond technological term ‘innovation.’ Some analysts consider innovation, which requires for the era of knowledge-based economy, is too broad to be useful to not only to generate economic value creation, but to social and organizational values related to social initiatives, entrepreneurship, leadership and management.This article offers Churchman’s concept of inquiring systems and systems approach that becomes ‘thought.’ Beer’s Viable System Model is also proposed in order to investigate the complex nature of social innovation in social practice. The article provides the conceptual framework and system model, which developed from previous research on innovation from systemic perspectives, to explore the phenomenon of innovation in social practice.
