State of Workplace Bullying and Sexual Harassment Experienced by Dental Hygienists

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the state of workplace bullying and sexual harassment experienced by dental hygienists, in an effort to seek ways for dental hygienists to cope with and prevent these issues. To gather data, a self-administered survey was conducted on 224 dental hygienists who worked in dental institutions in several regions. Overall, their mean score for workplace bullying was 34.47. Among the sub-factors for bullying, the highest score of 20.76 was given to bullying relating to interpersonal relationships. 48.7% of participants reported experience of sexual harassment in their workplace. This study is expected to raise awareness of the need for countermeasures and prevention of workplace bullying and sexual harassment, which are increasingly considered important, and to provide some information on the development of educational and intervention programs for preventive purposes.
