The Effects of A Play-Based Self-Expression Training Program on the Empowerment and School Adjustment of Multicultural Children

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of play-based self-expression training on the empowerment and school adjustment of Multicultural children. SPSS version 20.0 for Windows was used for data analysis to verify the effects of the training program. Among nonparametric statistical methods, the Mann-Whitney U Test and the Wilcoxon Singed-Rank Test were conducted. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, a play-based self-expression training program is effective in improving the empowerment of Multicultural children. Statistically significant differences were shown in all three lower-level elements of empowerment: personal ability, group consciousness, self-decision. Second, a play-based self-expression training program is effective for the school adjustment of Multicultural children. Among the lower-level elements of school adjustment, statistically significant differences were shown in interest in school and compliance with rules. No differences were shown in learning attitudes. This study has a significance in terms that it proved the effects of a play-based self-expression training program on the empowerment and school adjustment of Multicultural children, and the effects were confirmed by an experimental study.
